Rehabilitation audit fails five Hunter mines

A new report from the NSW Resources Regulator has found that five mines in the Hunter region have failed their rehabilitation audit.

Issues range from delays, risks to rehabilitation that will take significant time to fix, unrepaired erosion, unexplained areas of low species diversity and high weed density.

Emeritus Professor Tim Roberts is the former director of the Tom Farrell Institute at the University of Newcastle and organises yearly conferences on mine rehabilitation.

He speaks with Kia Handley.
